Do More With Less Sphere Contest

Rules

-One script file, 1kb max size. 512bytes if game uses the map engine.

-2 maps max (if using the map engine), with a map size of 20x20 max, and 16x16 tile size max, 16 tiles a map max. (On entering map and entity scripts are considerd part of the main script, so no using them to cram extra data in)

-No more than 100kb of images (spritesets are considerd images) and another 100kb of sounds/music. You can use one font and window style regardless of size, but no cramming non-font/window stuff in them (ie, cramming all of your graphics into the font)

-No system scripts, or any other pre-made scripts.

-No using files (raw or otherwise) to cram extra code

The contest begins NOW, and ends the 21st. E-mail your entrys to spherecompo56@yahoo.com

Games will be uploaded and posted here courtesy of Flikky.

After the compo ends you'll be given until the 25th to vote in a thread I will start in the sphere.sf.net forums, even if you didn't participate you may vote for your favorite 3 entrys.

Multiple entrys are allowed, you may have any size of team you want. Entrys that go over said limits will be penalized based on how far over they are. You can ask any questions about the contest to the e-mail address or ask SDHawk on irc.esper.net #sphere

Have fun!

New Sphere Contest

Ok, it has been awhile since we've had a contest. Most of the time we don't get a very good turnout, but this one is so simple it won't take much time for anyone to enter.

Unlike most contests, this one has one goal in mind: Do as much as possible with as little as possible.

The following limitations will be in place:
-One script file, 1kb max size. 512bytes if game uses the map engine.
-2 maps max (if using the map engine), with a map size of 20x20 max, and 16x16 tile size max, 16 tiles a map max. (On entering map and entity scripts are considerd part of the main script, so no using them to cram extra data in)
-No more than 100kb of images and another 100kb of sounds.

(Note: It's encouraged to not even bother using the map engine)

The winner will be determined by e-mailing me your favorite 3 entries, your first choice gets 3 points, second 2, third 1. Scores will be tallied up and a winner announced.

Now, I'm more than happy to run this contest...but first I need to know if anyone wants to enter it. So reply to this news entry if you're intrested (and any comments), if four or more people want to enter I'll start it. (Probably a week-long time limit)

VexoMenu v1.0

I have just finished the creation of VexoMenu, an advanced, yet simple, form/menu system. VexoMenu supports multiple input/selection boxes. All selectable items are placed on a column/row configuration, and each item can take up more than one slot (thus allowing for full 2d menus). VexoMenu also supports adding text based on styles, so as to make coding easier. Any of these items can be placed on unlimited layers for complex graphics. The demo and code is located at: http://www.troop554.net/VexoMenu.zip

RM2k Chipset to Sphere Tileset Converter

I don't know if anyone ever tried to seriously make a game with imported RM2k (RPGMaker2000) chipsets, if so, you surely noticed that it's almost impossible, because there are many tiles missing which the RM2k map editor puts together of pieces of tiles.

To solve this problem I wrote a converter in PHP.
If you have already PHP (plus GD-Lib) installed, just download http://theto.de/files/rm2rts.txt and rename it to .php.
Then call php rm2rts.php -h to view the help.

Those without PHP installed download the standalone version http://theto.de/files/rm2rts.zip and view readme.txt
